Here’s why I decided to make a DIY leather camera harness. Having two cameras means that you’re definitely going to need a harness that can carry two cameras (especially if you’re a wedding photographer). Now, you can order one, but a good leather one will cost a pretty penny. But it’s much cheaper to just do it yourself. A Hold Fast (which is the best of the best) leather harness can cost you $230 or more. The DIY route cost me around $70. I’ll post the tiktok of me making it below as well as text instructions. Here’s a quick look at how it looks on me (pictures will be updated once I get to take some self portraits).

DIY LEATHER CAMERA HARNESS
Materials needed:
3 Leather Belts (get the ones that are not laminated)
Super Glue
Clip
Drill (7/32″ Drill Bit)
Standard Screw Driver
Straight Cutters
Tape Measure
Wood Block
Hardware needed:
6 – 3/16” x 1/4” binder bolts
2 – swivel spring loaded clips
2 – screw lock chain links
2 – 1.5” 1/4”-20 machine thread eye bolt
2 – 1/4”-20 wing nuts
2 – 3/16” rubber washers
Instructions:
Take two of the belts and put them over your shoulders
Hook the end of one belt to the belt buckle of the other belt
Clamp the back where the belts cross
Drill two holes where they cross
Put binder bolts in the holes and screw fairly tight (add super glue if you want added support/stabiltiy)
Take the third belt and cut two 7inch long strips
At 1.25 inches, make a small cut on both sides of the strip (do this to both strips)
Put the swivel spring loaded clip over the small clips
Fold the leather over to cover the bottom of the clip
Drill another whole there and put a binder bolt in the hole to secure it
Take the screw lock chain links and put them below the buckles on the belts
Then loop the two strips on both sides, you want the edge to be about 1 inch away from the bottom edge of the spring loaded clip
Mark where the edge is and take it out of the screw lock chain
Drill a hole in the middle of it folded over
Loop it back through the screw lock chain, and insert the binder bolts through it to secure it
For the Screw mount:
Take the Thread eye bolt and attach a wing nut upside down
Follow that with a rubber washer
